2004-04-12 - 5:44 p.m. earlier today, i nearly lost a friend admitting that i do not own a baseball glove. perhaps i will lose even more in admitting the following: i do not own a dictionary. i had a big ole' red "webster's" back in college, but someone swiped it from me. actually, i don't really know what happened to it. i don't see how i could have lost something that big though. i have a dicitionary of frequently misused words, and a roget's thesaurus, and shasta's scrabble dictionary (which i really need to give back to you, i'm such a rotten friend), and online access to the OED. but no print real dictionary in my house. and i'm about to call myself a reference librarian . . . . this will all change very soon. after a reference desk shift's worth of research, i've decided to buy a real webster's college desk dictionary (the word "webster" is in the public domain or something, which is why at least 3 publisher's use the name on their dictionaries).
